Midland Prairie Enterprises, LLC (“Midland Prairie,” “we,” “us,” or “our”)

1.) Who This Policy Serves

This policy explains how Midland Prairie handles personal information when our services are used by children under 13, and how parents/legal guardians can control their child’s information, based on guidelines provided by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). These rules supplement our users’ Privacy Rights and apply wherever we have actual knowledge a user is under 13 or we offer a child-directed feature. (COPPA, 15 U.S.C. §§ 6501–6506; 16 C.F.R. part 312)

2.) Personal Information We Collect

We do not condition a child’s participation in an activity on disclosing more information than is reasonably necessary to participate. (16 C.F.R. § 312.5(c)(5))

  • Account or contact information: first name (or screen name), parent’s email, and password (if accounts are offered)
  • Content submitted: contest entries, artwork, writing samples, or messages sent through child-facing features
  • Technical data: IP address and device/browser identifiers needed for security and to operate the service
  • Limited usage data: pages or features used, error logs, and similar operational metrics

3.) How We Use Information

  • Operate and maintain child-directed features
  • Provide support and respond to inquiries
  • Protect security and prevent fraud or misuse
  • Comply with legal requirements and recordkeeping

4.) Parental Consent & Your Choices

We obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting, using, or disclosing personal information from a child under 13. Depending on the activity and sensitivity of information, we may use one or more FTC-recognized methods, such as:

  • Charging a nominal amount to a parent’s credit/debit card and providing notice
  • Requiring a signed consent form returned by mail, fax, or electronic scan
  • Using a video conference or a toll-free phone call with trained personnel
  • Using a government-issued ID check that is deleted after verification

Parents may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us; we will stop processing and delete the child’s personal information unless retention is required by law. (16 C.F.R. § 312.6)

5.) Parent Rights: Access, Deletion, & Control

Parents can review the personal information we have collected from their child, request deletion, and refuse any further collection or use of the child’s information. To exercise these rights, email privacy@midlandprairie.com (subject: “COPPA Request”). We will take reasonable steps to verify the requestor is the child’s parent or legal guardian. (16 C.F.R. § 312.6)

6.) Sharing Children’s Information

We share children’s personal information only with service providers who help us operate child-directed features and who have agreed to keep the information confidential and secure, to use it only for our instructions, and to delete or return it when services end. We may also disclose information where required to protect safety or comply with the law. (16 C.F.R. § 312.8)

7.) Security & Retention

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to our size and the nature of the information. We retain children’s personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the activity or as required by law, and then delete or de-identify it.

8.) Advertising & Tracking

We do not serve interest-based ads in child-directed features, and we do not permit third-party ad networks to collect personal information from children through our services.

9.) Changes to this Children’s Privacy Policy

We will provide direct notice to parents and obtain new consent if we make material changes to our practices that affect children’s data, before the changes take effect. (16 C.F.R. § 312.4)
